Space chips!

Google is launching an AI “data center” into orbit tomorrow! I use quotes because what they describe in the article is effectively one server. But it’s still really cool! Not too long ago Elon Musk caught a lot of flack for talking about the idea of AI data centers in space, in particular from Sam Altman. To be fair, Altman qualified that they won’t matter at scale this decade and it seems like the execs running this initiative at Google are thinking on the same time horizon. The satellite they’re launching is called “MVP” and the chips only run for 15 minutes at a time, but this is a pretty cool milestone in technology and I’m excited for it.
